Zaiontz returns to victory lane in USCS 600s at Senoia PDF Print E-mail
USCS600Zaiontz8.22.15.jpgSENOIA, Ga. – August 22, 2015 - Story credit to Jacob Seelman - Bobby Zaiontz returned to his winning ways in the USCS 600 Sprint Car Series during Saturday night’s Senoia Summer Nationals VI finale feature, passing K&N Filters Pole Position starter Shane Werner on lap two of the 15-lap A-main and never looking back en route to his first USCS feature win of the year. The win was Zaiontz’s record-extending 21st career trip to Victory Lane in USCS competition, and the veteran led a sweep of the podium for his BZ House of Speed team.

“I slacked off the last five laps last night and kinda shot myself in the foot just a bit,” Zaiontz admitted. “I didn’t mean to, but I wanted to make sure it didn’t happen again tonight and look where we’re sitting. We had a really fast car and it feels good to be back in the winner’s circle again.”  The race was slowed once at lap eight for a hard crash in turn four, involving series points leader Remeno Loyal. An apparent mechanical failure sent Loyal straight into the outside wall, however he climbed gingerly from his No. 2X entry – assisted by medical personnel due to a foot injury.

15-year-old Brandon Taylor, from Cumming, Ga., chased Zaiontz all the way to the finish line but ended up a half-straightaway back in second, and Alpharetta, Ga. veteran Bob Trapino rounded out the podium in third. Tommy Thompson, out of Ten Mile, Tenn., scored a career-best USCS 600 feature finish in fourth and Castalian Springs, Miss. native Michael Barton rounded out the top five.

Harlem, Ga. rookie Chris Huffman was the last car running in sixth, with polesitter Werner credited with seventh after pulling off-track at lap nine with a lost chain. .Remeno Loyal was credited with ninth place after his crash and Shaun Fitzgerald, Powder Springs, Georgia finished in ninth pace.

Brandon Taylor kicked off the night by grabbing the win in the Hoosier Tire Speed Dash, and Shane Werner then took the win in the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat. Zaiontz notched the win in the Second Heat.

Werner was the provisional pole starter after scoring the most passing points in heat race action, and after a zero was rolled on the K&N Inversion Die by First Heat winner Brandon Taylor, he also grabbed the K&N Filters Pole Position. Brandon Taylor passed the most cars in the main event to garner the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger Award.

The USCS 600 Sprint Car Series season continues on Friday, October 2 at the Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C.
