Hagar awarded USCS 2016 Speedweek Round #2 win @ Jackson Motor Speedway on Saturday. PDF Print E-mail
USCSHagar5.27.16.jpgByram, MS - May 28, 2016 - The 2013 United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder Tour National Champion, Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas was awarded the victory in Round #2 of the USCS Sprint Speedweek 2016 at Jackson Motor Speedway in a race also entitled the 18th annual Ival Cooper Memorial. Brian Bell from Memphis, Tennessee led the field across the finish line in the 30-lap main event only to be disqualified in post-race technical inspection. The win was the second in a row for Hagar to the USCS Victory Lane after winning on the previous night at Hattiesburg Speedway and his third of the season in USCS competition. It was also his thirty-ninth career USCS series win.


After Bell’s unfortunate DQ, the 2013 USCS National Champ, Tim Crawley from Benton, Arkansas moved up into the runner-up spot in the 39-car field. Crawley was followed by 2008 USCS Rookie of the Year, Anthony Nicholson from Bartlett, Tennessee claimed the K7N Filters Podium Award for finishing in third place. Another past series Champion, Marshall Skinner also from Marion, Arkansas finished in fourth place. The 2015 Riverside Speedway Track Champion, Andy McElhannon from Hernando, Mississippi completed the top five finishers.

The next group showed five-time 2015 USCS victor, Eric Riggins, Jr. from Charlotte, North Carolina in sixth place followed by 11-time series National Champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee in seventh place. J.J. Simmons from Abbott, Texas finished in eighth place, The defending USCS Champion, Morgan Turpen from Cordova, Tennessee finished in ninth place and rookie Kyle Amerson from Matthews, Alabama rounded out the top ten. 


Marshall Skinner kicked off the evening’s action by winning the Hoosier Speed Dash for the top six cars from the previous night. Five heat races were to follow. Young gun Howard Moore from Memphis, Tennessee won the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat. Anthony Nicholson won the Brown and Miller Racing Solutions Second Heat. Skinner scored again with a winning the Wilwood Disc Brakes Third Heat, while Andy McElhannon collected the “V” in the Schoenfeld Headers Fourth Heat. Tim Crawley closed out the heat race action with a win in the Fifth Heat.


Two B-Mains were required to set the final qualifying positions for the A-Main. Flyin’ Brian Bell won the Saldana Racing Products First B-Main to earn the 15th starting position. Rookie driver Kyle Amerson earned the 16th starting position by winning the 12-lap Hero Graphics Second B-Main event.
