Atwood, TN – Monday, May 30, 2016 –The 2009 K&N Filters USCS Modified Weekly Racing Series Champion, Matt Cooper from nearby McKenzie, Tennessee used his home track knowledge to add to his series career-win total in the K&N Filters USCS Outlaw Modified Series on Memorial Day Monday night at Clathill Motorsports. Cooper raced his familiar #18 open wheel race car into the www.rockauto.com USCS Victory Lane to collect the $1000 first place pay check and collect his career ninth USCS win.
The K&N USCS Outlaw Modified Series rivers were welcomed by a near capacity crowd on Mondaynight.at Clayhill Motorsports. The USCS K&N Outlaw Modified Series was on the racing card with the 20th Anniversary USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour winged sprint cars as part of their 11th Annual USCS Sprint Speedweek. What a show it was for the people that witnessed the winged cars and USCS Outlaw modifieds on the dirt 3/8th mile for the first time since 2014.
Cooper swept the 25 lap A-Main feature win from the outside front row starting spot getting past K&N Pole Position starter and 2014 K&N Filters USCS Outlaw Modified Series “Rookie of the Year” Preston Seratt from Dyersburg, TN. Cooper then never looked back on his way to victory lane.
The racing action started with the 4-lap K&N Filters USCS Modified Power Dash to give a little appetizer to the Clayhill Motorsports fans of what was to come for the night of open wheel excitement, The #21 of 2013 K&N Filters USCS Outlaw Modified Series Champion, Troy Dow from Munford, TN was able to easily pull away from all comers to take the Dash win. In the preliminary 8-lap heat racing action the #29 of Preston Seratt would easily pull away from all competition to secure the Wilwood Disc Brakes Heat #1 victory that locked up the inside rows for the feature race go later in the night. The BMRS Heat Race #2 would have eventual A-Main feature winner #18 Matt Cooper take an easy preliminary victory over the pack that set the outside row for the 25-lap feature race to come.
After the preliminaries we’re concluded the open wheel missiles we’re set to take the green flag from Jonathon Gowan to get the 2nd race of the season underway for the 11th and 2016 season for the USCS K&N Filters USCS Outlaw Modified Series at Clayhill Motorsports in front of an absolutely packed house on a warm Memorial Day Monday night in western Tennessee.
The 25-lap feature was basically over after the field streaked into turn one for the initial circuit. Cooper had the outside land over Seratt on the bottom’s inside groove and when the green flag fell Copper sailed away from Seratt and company making them quickly a vision in his rear view mirror.
Seratt, the #18R of former track Champion Bart Richardson from Bradford, TN and Dash winner #21 Troy Dow, while having a good battle inside the top five hoped that lap traffic would hold up Cooper to reel him in but that wasn’t the case as lap traffic cleared the way for the roaring #18 machine of Cooper’s.
Two caution flag periods, one for a spin of the #3 of Greg Welch from Sardis, TN and yet another for #5d of Jeremy Dalton from Holly Springs, MS losing debris off his car wouldn’t help. Each period bunched the field behind Cooper, but, as soon as the green flag came back out Cooper would set sail and easily secured the victory for stop #2 of the USCS K&N Outlaw Modified Series at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN.
The 2nd spot would go to Preston Seratt, the K&N Filters Podium Award 3rd place to Bart Richardson while 2013 series Champion Troy Dow and the #5 car driven by Chanley Purtteman from Brooklyn, AR rounded out the Top 5 finishers. Matt Cooper joined Gregg Hollingsworth as the two USCS Outlaw Modified winners in 2016. In addition, Matt Cooper’s win moved him into the 2nd spot on the All-Time USCS Modified wins’ list.
