Ashley Newman honored as 2008 Rislone USCS Modified Series Champion PDF Print E-mail

USCSOWMBANQUET08Newman.jpgAtlanta, Ga - January 12, 2008 - 120 attendees joined the United Speed Contest Sanction to honor Ashley Newman from Ripley, Tennessee as the 2008 Rislone USCS Modified Series Champion during the recent Champions Awards Banquet held Saturday night at the Hilton Memphis Convention Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Newman used a steady string of top five finishes and a pair of feature wins at Camden Speedway on May 29th and Columbus Speedway on May 31st to accumulate 2763 Championship points and garner the crown in the competitive third year of the series.

Newman drove his own #73 James Pest Management, Racing Head Service/Comp Cams sponsored Newman Fabrication engineered car He used a Paul Newman power plant under the hood. Other sponsors for the Championship team included Greg’s One Stop, Memphis Sign Solutions and Copeland Enterprises.

USCSOWMtopten2008.jpgYoung Gun Joseph Leister from Olive Branch, Mississippi finished with 2074 points in the runner-up spot. Leister had several great runs especially at his home track at Riverside Speedway in July and October. Hard charging Hunter Rasdon from Jonesboro, Arkansas didn’t make it to every Rislone USCS Modified Series event but had enough points after a number top runs including two feature wins to hold down the third position in the final standings. Rasdon won at Riverside International Speedway on July 10th and captured the Missouri State Championship Race at Malden Speedway on September 13th. He finished the season with a runner-up spot in the Gumbo Nationals at Greenville Speedway on November 1st.

Talented eighteen year-old Nesbit, Mississippi hot shoe Casey Rowland finished in the fourth position in the final standings with points. Rowland had a number o top five finishes and won the Rislone USCS Speedweek Championship Dash. Veteran Rislone USCS Modified racer Junior Lemmings from Jackson, Tennessee won the modified portion of the Labor Day Sunday Speed Spectacular at Camden Speedway. Lemmings rounded out the top five drivers in the standings with 1259 points.

2006 Rislone USCS Co-Champion (with T.J. Herndon) Ben Reed from Munford, Tennessee finished sixth in the series standings with 1162 points. Reed won the first two races of the season held at Greenville Speedway. Duke Palasini from Leland, Mississippi collected 1057 points and the seventh place trophy. Cody Rowland from Nesbit, Mississippi was 13 points behind in eighth place with 1042 points. Paragould, Arkansas bad boy Robby Arnold won twice in the series on May 9th at Malden Speedway and on May 25th at Greenville Speedway and collected 949 points along the way to finish in ninth place in the standings. Young first year modified driver, Mike Palasini, Jr. from Leland, Mississippi nailed down at tenth place finish in the point standings after several outstanding runs in the series.

Third generation driver, Mike Palasini, Jr. garnered the 2008 Rislone USCS Modified Series Rookie of the Year honors. Cody Rowland from Nesbit, Mississippi was recognized as the most improved driver over the 2008 season in the series. Newman’s team of Charles Hurt and Keith Gay were honored as Co-Crew Chiefs of the Year for their Championship winning efforts.

Newman collected over $3500 in cash and product awards for his efforts and Leister collected over $2200 for his efforts. Seven of the top ten drivers were on hand to pick up their awards that included cash to all who participated in seventy percent or more of the series events. The Product award sponsors included: Rislone Oil Stabilizer and Engine Treatments, Aero Race Wheels, R.H.S. (Racing Head Service), Bar’s Leaks, Butlerbuilt Safety Equipment , FSR Racing Products, Hoosier Race Tire, Tennison Brothers, Inc. Metals, Schoenfeld Headers and Arizona Sport Shirts.

A 30+ night 2009 schedule of events for the series was distributed during the banquet. The 2009 schedule shows the series visiting twelve different speedways during the 2009 season. The schedule also includes the 2nd Annual Rislone USCS Modified Speedweek at six different tracks over ten days with $10,000 possible to win. The series is scheduled to kick off its 2009 journey to the Championship on Friday March 6th and Saturday, March 7th at Central Mississippi in Winona, Mississippi.
