The race was part of the Parts Plus USCS Topless Challenge at Riverside International Speedway and paid Stephens $1000 for the win plus $500 for winning main event “Topless”.

HERNDON CAPTURES RISLONE USCS MOD SPEEDWEEK Round 2 at MALDEN

Herndon aka the Atwood Outlaw from Atwood, TN captured the Rislone USCS Modified 25-lap main event at Malden Speedway on Friday night.  Herndon started the Speedweek Round Two feature racefrom the K&N Filters pole position. He then bested a field of 28 top open wheel modified drivers from six states in the Modified portion of the Freedom 200. Rislone USCS Modified Weekly Racing Series points leader, Matt Cooper from McKenzie, TN finished in the runner-up spot three car lengths back. Ashley Newman, the reigning 2008 Rislone USCS Modified Champion from Ripley TN, finished third, followed by Jeff Floyd from Walnut Ridge, AR in fourth and veteran West Tennessee racer Junior Lemmings from Jackson, TN rounded out the top five.

It was the 2007 Parts Plus USCS Rookie of the Year driver’s career-first feature win in the series. The night’s events commemorated the racing career of former United Sprint Car Series racer Randy Helton who passed away suddenly in March of 2008.

Gray drove his Rislone Oil Treatment sponsored Wesmar powered, J&J Auto Racing car into turn one  ahead of last week’s feature winner Marshall Skinner and commenced to wire the field with Skinner in pursuit for the next 30 laps. Rookie point’s leader Justin Carver finished third followed by 2008 Rookie of the Year, Anthony Nicholson and Matt Linder rounded out the top five.

Defending Parts Plus USCS Mid South Thunder Champion, Tim Crawley from Benton, Arkansas who started in the eleventh position race through field and chased Stewart over the last ten laps of the race. Crawley closed within two car lengths as the duo crossed the finish line but had his Greenville Speedway win streak stopped at three.
