COLUMBUS, MS – March 4, 2017 – The 2014 K&N Filters USCS Outlaw Modified Series Rookie f the Year, Preston Seratt from Finley, Tennessee took the lead after a lap sixteen caution period with four laps to go to take the K&N Filters USCS Outlaw Modified Series 20-lap A-Main win on Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Seratt started fifth and battled for the lead in the closing laps of the race with Spencer Hughes of Meridian, MS and team-mate 2008 USCS Modified Series Champion Ashley Newman from Ripley, Tennessee. It was Seratt’s second career trip to the USCS Victory Lane after a win in the series.

Newman led the race for eight laps, but had to settle for second place.  Spencer Hughes led the first nine laps of the race, and finished in the third spot. Greg Welch from Sardis, TN took the fourth spot, and fifth went to Craig Vaughn from Olive Branch, MS.  Nesbit, Mississippi’s Brandon Poppenheimer finished sixth and Keith Hammett from Paragould, AR followed in seventh.  Rodney Etheridge of Tuscaloosa, AL came home in the eighth spot, and young gun Wilbanks from Lakeland, TN took the ninth spot.

In preliminary action, Willbanks picked up where he left off on Friday night, as he won the six-lap K&N Filters USCS Modified Power Dash on Saturday night.  Wilbanks took the 2017 USCS Outlaw Modified season-opener on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS.  On Saturday night at The Mag, Spencer Hughes won the eight-lap Heat Race.

Hughes took the lead at the start of the 20-lap A-Main from the K&N Filters Pole Position followed by Newman, Welch, Hammett, and Seratt.  Hammett passed Welch for the third spot on lap two, and Poppenheimer moved into the top five and passed Welch for fourth on lap four.  Hammett brought out the first caution flag of the race on lap six when he spun out of the third spot.

The restart saw Hughes leading Newman, Poppenheimer, Seratt and Vaughn down for the green flag.  Newman turned up the wick and began to challenge Hughes for the point, and took the lead on lap ten.  Welch climbed back into the top five on lap 13 when he passed Vaughn for the fifth position.

Seratt got busy in the last four laps of the race.  Seratt got by Poppenheimer to take over the third spot on lap 17, and then shot by both Hughes and Newman on lap 18 to take over the lead.  Seratt then hung on for the final two laps of the race to take the win.
