Shane Stephens leads USCS Modified standings into Malden Speedway Summer Shootout

Atlanta, GA - Going into the 1st Annual Summer Shootout event at Malden Speedway, Shane Stephens from Arlington, Tennessee leads the 2007 USCS Open Wheel Modified Series point standings with 680 points after six events. Stephens points were accumulated with finishes that include one feature race win at Malden Speedway on May 25th, a second place finish at Malden Speedway on April 20th a third place finish in the most recent event on June 2nd at Columbus Speedway.

Two racing Brothers, Jeremy Russell and Jonathan Russell from Jonesboro, Arkansas follow Stephens in the standings with 616 and 606 points respectively after steady performances thus far into the season . The 2006 USCS Open Wheel Modified Series Rookie of the Year, Kody Mea from Southaven, Mississippi is fourth with 590 points. Modified ace Ashley Newman from Ripley, Tennessee rounds out the top five in the standings.

Veteran USCS Open Wheel Modified Series racer Junior Lemmings from Jackson, Tennessee is in sixth place in the standings with 482 points. Ronnie Vernon from Friendship, Tennessee is seventh with 440 points. West Tennessee hot-shoe Brandon Poppenheimer from Memphis, Tennessee is eighth in the title chase with a total of 420 points and two time 2007 feature winner, Troy Fowler from Portageville, Missouri is ninth in the standings with 416 points. Completing the top ten and only four points back of Fowler is Mark Stephens from Arlington, Tennessee with 412 points.

A total of eighty-seven (87) different drivers from six states have earned points by participating in USCS Open Wheel Modified Series events during the first six races. There has been an average car count of twenty-six and one half cars per event. The point totals represent the five best event point totals a driver has earned. The worst of the six event totals was dropped from their points earned allowing a driver to miss or not count a bad night or a missed night.
